POSTPONED - Will be rescheduled to 2010 Jeremiah Wilton is coming over to the Netherlands to tell about his experience as Amazon.com first DBA-er in his new seminar. He still has a very good relationship with Amazon so he is willing to share his knowledge in his very new seminar "Deploying Oracle on Amazon Web Services". Jeremiah Wilton is now Director, Education and Emergency Support Services Jeremiah Wilton has over fifteen years of Oracle database administration and systems architecture experience. As Amazon.com’s first database administrator, he helped lead Amazon.com’s database group from the pre-IPO period through the company’s years of exponential growth. He now directs education programs and emergency support services for Blue Gecko, a leader in remote database administration and managed hosting for Oracle, Oracle Applications and MySQL. Watch Jeremiah announce his seminar here on YouTube! In Dutch !!!! And view here the English version. Day 1, 15 June 2009:Deploying Oracle on Amazon Web ServicesIf you say the words “Cloud Computing” frequently in meetings and at the workplace, your colleagues will realize that you are very intelligent, and you will be promoted. In addition, cloud computing improves upon traditional hosted infrastructure in many ways. Deployment of new host resources takes only minutes. Applications can scale up quickly without costly hardware upgrades. Day 2, 16 June 2009:Building Amazon: Scaling to Infinity with Zero Downtime, Experimental Infrastructure and No SleepBetween 1996 and 2006, Amazon's Oracle infrastructure migrated from a single database on local disks to hundreds of instances on a massively distributed infrastructure, all with almost no downtime. How did we do it without sacrificing our health, sanity and relationships? No comment. But Amazon's challenges in the areas of scaling, availability and stability are similar to those that many Oracle customers face every day, just on a bigger scale and with greater frequency. In this seminar, learn how moving from a single centralized database, to a loosely coupled, highly distributed infrastructure can improve scalability, availability, and DBA sanity. Additionally, we will cover topics such as recovering a database during a riot while breathing teargas, successful deployment of Netapp Filers while standing in ten cm. of water, and how Amazon's office dog policy once conflicted with a visit by the vice president of the United States.
